Session Introduction - Interoperability

Projects that focus on interoperability and the information / services provided and received by and for consumers / utilities. Will they need the less possible actual engagement from the part of the consumer?

Market Architectures Integrating Ancillary Services from Distributed Energy Resources

  • Market architectures for the implementation of various TSO-DSO coordination schemes will be described.
  • The operational tools required for the efficient provision of ancillary services by distributed energy resources under those market architectures will be discussed.
  • Conclusions on model tractability and performance will be duly drawn.

Danish Pilot: flexibility resources from indoor swimming pools

  • In this project the swimming pools will be controlled to provide ancillary services to the grid in a new market setup which will make it easier for small distributed assets to provide flexibility.
  • This will make it easier for the DSO to balance the distribution grid, variable renewables will be better utilized and grid expansions might be avoided in the long term.
  • A small test system has already been built and proved the concept of two different API solutions.

Italian Pilot: Monitoring and Control of Distribution Resources

  • Objective of the project is to test the technical implementation in field of some of ancillary services provided by dispersed generation.
  • Aggregation of information about dispersed generation in real time, voltage regulation, power/frequency regulation, participation of distributed generation into the system defence plans and special protection schemes.

Spanish Pilot: Flexibility Resources from Radio Base Stations for Telecommunication

  •          The aim of the pilot is to proof a specific coordination scheme between the TSO and the DSO. This scheme will enable some ancillary services (power/frequency regulation) provided by several bases station of telecommunication spread in the territory.
  •          The DSO will take a new role in the market providing balancing and acting as an aggregator of small-scale flexibility providers connected at distribution level. The pilot will demonstrate the flexibility of the integration of DER in the grid
